Education and Profession

Now I haven't always been confident in my desire to become a teacher. Leaving high school I knew I would enjoy being a teacher. I had worked as a tutor throughout high school and college. I had volunteered in summer camps and as a student teacher at the dance studio. My mother always said I had a way with younger kids- even as a kid myself.

However, to become a teacher you need a Bachelor's Degree in anything basically so I decided to keep my options open. If I had to go to university for a 4-year degree anyways, I may as well keep looking for further interests.

I ended up with a degree in history.

Throughout my search for a non-teacher profession I came up with the usual doctor and lawyer along with genetic counsellor, recreation manager and other random professions. It wasn't a wasted search. I believe it helped me to see my real love of teaching. Any kid with a good experience in school wants to be a teacher at some point. I know that without a doubt it is the right profession for me.

As for where my career is now, well I have to complete another degree to become a teacher. In the meantime I work with kids in many different environments. I wouldn't have it any other way.
